Hello World!
We are long-time volleyball fans slash math nerds from the Philippines – we created VolleyMetricsPH to serve as an outlet to satisfy our (analytical) curiosities about the sport. This blog will focus on the statistics of gameplay and will be largely exploratory as the metrics we will be using here are all unofficial and untested stats (at least in the Philippine volleyball scene; Japan and Thailand known for their use of advanced metrics in their Sports Science). We are also looking into developing derived metrics using advanced maths that aim to explain the the intricacies and unmeasurables of the sport.
We analyzed Philippine UAAP women’s volleyball games as a start, as these games have the most exposure and coverage. We have expanded to the Philippine Super Liga (PSL) and are now covering international games staged here in the Philippines. Hopefully we can cover more tournaments as we move along and as appreciation for the sport grows in the country.
